North Carolina has 100 counties & the Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians:

The largest county is Sampson stretching sixty miles long and thirty-five miles wide.  at 963 square miles, this county is just about the size of the State of Rhode Island. The smallest county is Tyrrell with a population of 3,245. North Carolina (the 12th of the original 13 colonies) achieved statehood on November 21, 1788 and is the 29th largest state in the country.
